Wise County, VA – A Norton, Virginia man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges after he stabbed a woman several times last year. 39-year-old Jonathan Eric Smith entered guilty pleas to attempted first degree murder, malicious wounding, abduction, stabbing in the commission of a felony, assault and battery of a family member, and assault and battery of emergency medical personnel. According to authorities, Norton police officers responded to the complaint on August 28m 2018 and found the victim outside of a residence covered in blood. Officers wrote in the arrest citation that Smith was standing in the stoop of the residence with a knife in his hand and refused commands to put it down and was combative with officers and medical personnel before he was pepper sprayed and taken into custody and lodged in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for November 26th. Smith could spend more than 50 years in prison.
