Man charged with growing marijuana at residence

ROBINSON CREEK, Ky. — The Pikeville Police Department was dispatched to a local hospital on a domestic assault case.

While lodging Dennis Allen Loop, 36, of Groundhog Lane of Robinson Creek, into the Pike County Detention Center, police say he told them he had incriminating photos on his cell phone of his wife stealing medication from her employer.

Loop allegedly unlocked his phone in order to show police the photographs. While police allegedly saw pictures of Loop’s wife, they also claimed to have witnessed incriminating pictures of Dennis Loop.

“Upon several attempts for him to look at the phone, the officer took the phone and looked at it,” said Chief Chris Edmonds with the Pikeville Police Department. “During that observation of the pictures on the phone, he noticed a large marijuana grow.”

“While on scene, officers were able to locate one marijuana plant on the back porch. They then saw a trail leading to an outbuilding where there were items used for growing. As they followed the trail up on the hill, they found 16 adult marijuana plants growing behind the residence.”

Dennis Loop was charged with fourth-degree assault and cultivating marijuana.

The Pikeville Police Department adds to be aware that this is harvest time for marijuana. If anyone sees anything suspicious, notify local police agencies.
