Tuesday morning, officials with the Floyd County school system along with deputies with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office took action after two middle school students brought knives to John M. Stumbo Elementary School. Superintendent Danny Adkins says school officials were made aware of a possible situation, notified the Sheriff’s Office and took action immediately. After the initial investigation, it was confirmed that two students had, in fact, brought knives to school that morning. Adkins says he is not aware of any particular threat made to any school officials or students. The Floyd County school district is working closely with deputies and prosecutors, and criminal charges may be filed as early as Friday. In addition, Adkins says he does not know at this point when, or if, the students will return to John M. Stumbo Elementary School.
