Ky. medical marijuana group meets; town hall planned in Pikeville next month

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear’s new medical cannabis advisory committee held its first meeting on Monday, laying the groundwork for its future.

The 17-member committee of health care professionals, members of law enforcement and medical marijuana advocates was appointed by the Beshear last week. The committee includes only one member from Eastern Kentucky — Dr. Jonathan Hatton, of Whitesburg.

The governor gave the committee the task of traveling the state to gather Kentuckians views’ on medical marijuana and report back their findings. During Monday’s meeting, the committee went over its responsibilities and discussed when to hold town hall meetings across the state.

The first town hall will be held in Pikeville on July 6, on the 7th floor of the University of Pikeville Health Professions Education Building.

In addition to the meetings, Kentuckians can also submit their opinions online, at medicalcannabis.ky.gov.
