PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — A Paintsville dentist was arrested Friday night, after police said he impersonated an officer and offered marijuana to a young patient.
Paintsville Police were called to Mayo Plaza just before 9 p.m. over a report that Richard Connelley, 69, of Salyersville, had tried to convince to the girl to come to his truck to smoke “Hawaiian pineapple express.”
When police found Connelley, he told the officer he was a Magoffin County deputy sheriff and showed them a badge. Police contacted Magoffin County Sheriff Billy Meade, who said Connelley was not a deputy and that he had no idea how he had obtained a badge.
The officer noted that Connelley appeared to be under the influence, and the remains of a smoked joint were found under his seat. Police also reviewed Facebook messages Connelley had sent to the girl.
Connelley was arrested and charged with DUI, impersonating an officer and possession of marijuana.
