WASHINGTON, D.C. — As expected, the U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday afternoon to impeach President Donald Trump on a single charge of inciting an insurrection.

The charge accuses the president of encouraging rioters to lay siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, while both houses of Congress were in session to count the electoral votes from the Nov. 3 presidential election.

The vote was slightly more bipartisan than the 2019 impeachment, with 221 Democrats joined by 10 Republicans in voting for impeachment.

There were 197 votes against the impeachment — all Republican.

President Trump is only the third president in U.S. history to be impeached, and the first to be impeached twice.
