ABINGDON, Va. — A Wise County man has pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to smuggle meth from Georgia into southwestern Virginia for distribution.

Cory Austin Hammond, 23, pleaded guilty last week to conspiracy to distribute meth and possession of meth with the intent to distribute.

He admitted in court that he purchased more than 500 grams of meth between July of 2019 and December of 2020, with the intent to distribute it in Wise and Lee counties.

He now faces a potential maximum of life in prison when he is sentenced in September.
