FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State Police is looking to return to the top in this year’s Best Looking Cruiser Contest, sponsored by the American Association of State Troopers.

Each year, AAST holds the contest, asking the public to vote online. The top 13 states are then featured in the following year’s calendar, with the winner featured both on the cover and in the month of January.

KSP took top honors in 2021 and 2022, but was denied the three-peat in 2023, when Florida won the contest. Kentucky fell to fifth, preserving a six-year streak of top-five finishes.

“Every year, we are humbled by the outpouring of support from Kentuckians during the national best-looking cruiser contest,” KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. said. “While we enjoy the fun camaraderie between the state police agencies, we’re in it to win it!”

This year’s KSP entry pays tribute to the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby and the 50th anniversary of Secretariat’s winning of the Triple Crown. There is also a lot of horsepower in Kentucky’s entry this year — a 2024 Ford Mustang GT.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — After falling behind to Tennessee in the American Association of State Troopers’ annual Best-Looking Cruiser Contest, Kentucky State Police has eked out a last-minute win.

This makes the second year in a row that Kentucky has won the contest, but earlier in the week, it didn’t look like that would happen. Tennessee was leading the contest on Tuesday, when KSP put out a call for votes.

In the end, Kentucky won the contest with more than 65,000 votes, beating Tennessee by nearly 10,000.

This year’s KSP entry featured a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, equipped with 20-inch tires and a 5.3 liter 4WD producing 355 horsepower and a ten-speed automatic transmission. The photo was snapped on Pisgah Pike in Woodford County with a backdrop featuring horse country.

The top 13 cruisers will be featured in the AAST 2023 calendar, with Kentucky featured on the cover and as the January photo. Full results are as follows:

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State Police is trying to win the “Best Looking Cruiser” contest for the second year in a row, but they’re facing some stiff competition, with time quickly running out.

Kentucky’s entry this year is a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, equipped with 20-inch tires and a 5.3 liter 4WD producing 355 horsepower and a ten-speed automatic transmission. The photo was snapped on Pisgah Pike in Woodford County with a backdrop featuring horse country.

“Kentucky is known as the bluegrass state and this photo showcases the timeless beauty our backroads offer,” KSP Public Affairs Commander Captain Paul Blanton said. “We are proud to serve Kentucky and we hope our citizens will cast their vote in support of KSP.”

The contest is an annual competition staged by the American Association of State Troopers. Right now, Kentucky is in second place behind Tennessee, and voting ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

KSP has placed in the top three the last three years and won the contest last year.

“KSP creates safer communities every single day,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Voting for the KSP cruiser in AAST’s annual contest is a small but meaningful way for Kentuckians to show their appreciation for troopers around the state.”

The top 13 finalists will be featured on AAST’s 2023 calendar.
