LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Another person has died as a result of Monday morning’s shooting at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, police said in an afternoon press conference to update the public on the situation.

Police have identified the shooter as 23-year-old Connor Sturgeon, an employee of the bank. His LinkedIn profile listed him as a “syndications associate and portfolio banker” for Old National. Police say he used a rifle during the shooting, but have provided no additional details about the weapon.

There were unconfirmed reports that Sturgeon livestreamed the shooting on his Instagram page. That page has since been taken down.

Five people are now dead. Louisville Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroe identified four of them. They include:

• Tommy Elliott, 63
• James Tutt, 64
• Joshua Barrick, 40
• Juliana Farmer, 57

All four were employees of the bank.

Nine others were injured in the shooting, including two police officers who responded to the scene. Of the nine, three were said to be in critical condition, including one of the police officers. That officer was Nickolas Wilt, 26, who only recently joined the force after graduating the police academy March 31. Police say he was shot in the head and has undergone brain surgery.

The victims included one of the Gov. Andy Beshear’s closest friends.

“Tommy Elliott helped me build my career and become Governor; he offered me advice as a dad,” Beshear said. “He was an incredible friend, and he was loved, just like every single person lost – each one irreplaceable to their families and this community. Let’s focus on these families, our heroic first responders and the dedicated health care heroes fighting to save more lives.”

The shooting happened just after 8:30 Monday morning. Police responded to the scene within three minutes and found Sturgeon still shooting. That prompted a shootout between Sturgeon and police, during which Sturgeon was killed. It was not immediately clear if he was killed by police gunfire or by a self-inflicted gunshot.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A gunman was killed during a shootout with police Monday morning, shortly after he opened fire on a dozen people at a Louisville bank, killing four of them.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. at Old National Bank on Main Street. Police believe the gunman was either a current or former employee.

Four inside the bank died and another eight were injured. In addition, two police officers were hit during the shootout with the gunman. Of the 10 people who were injured, two are considered to be in critical condition, including one of the police officers.

Police say they do not know if the shooter died after being shot by police or from a self-inflicted gunshot.

“It is clear from the officers’ response that they absolutely save people’s lives,” Louisville Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said during a press conference Monday morning. “This is a tragic event, but it was the heroic response of officers that made sure that no more people were more seriously injured than what happened.”

Louisville Police say the investigation at the crime scene will likely last into the night.

Police say there is no longer any active threat and they believe the gunman acted alone.

The identities of the gunman and victims have not yet been released.
