PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Efforts by Pikeville Police to find an Ohio fugitive resulted in officers finding the suspect as well as an assortment of drugs.

Pikeville Police and a U.S. Marshals Task Force had a information that Dennis Washington, 51, of Columbus, Ohio, could be located at an apartment on Hambley Boulevard and went to locate him April 14. Washington was wanted in Columbus for multiple counts of drug trafficking and possession.

When they arrived at the apartment, they found Daryl Adkins, 58, of Pikeville, sitting outside. When they showed him a picture of Washington and asked if he knew where he was, he said he didn’t recognize him but would let them know if he saw him.

Police later learned from the apartment owner that Washington was in the apartment and officers soon placed him under arrest. While doing so, they spotted a glass pipe nearby, and used that information to obtain a search warrant for the apartment.

That search turned up two gallon-size plastic bags of meth hidden in the washer and dryer, multiple bags of fentanyl, some crack cocaine and six oxycodone tablets.

Washington also let the officers know that Adkins had let him know that police were looking for him.

Washington, Adkins and Lashawn Walker, 51, of Columbus, who was also in the apartment, were all arrested and charged with meth and cocaine trafficking, aggravated fentanyl trafficking and drug possession. Adkins was also charged with hindering prosecution for lying to police, as well as promoting contraband and fentanyl possession when jail staff found a bag of the drug hidden in his jeans.

All three remain in the Pike County jail.

Just before 1 a.m., Saturday, a state trooper pulled over a truck traveling 35 miles an hour along U.S. 119 near the Zebulon exit. The driver, 39-year-old Britia Noel Johnson, of McRoberts, turned over her license and registration, and the officer soon learned she had a lengthy criminal history and was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service in Virginia.

On March 13, Johnson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of meth in Abingdon federal court. She was allowed to remain free while awaiting sentencing.

Johnson was handcuffed and allowed to sit on the ground by the police car’s front tire while the trooper conducted a search. That search turned up a glass pipe in the truck.

But another officer noticed a small bag containing 3.5 grams of meth in front of the tire where Johnson had been sitting. Johnson claimed the drugs were not hers, but dashcam video showed her acting suspiciously while sitting there.

Johnson was placed under arrest and put into the police car. As the trooper backed up to take her to jail, he heard a crunching sound and felt his tire roll over something. When he went to look at what he had run over, he found a larger bag containing between 4 and 8 ounces of meth.

The officer wrote in his report that he believes the bag was missed because it had been placed either directly behind or on top of his tire. Johnson again protested that the drugs were not hers and suggested the trooper planted them.

She is now charged with meth trafficking, evidence tampering and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held without bond in the Pike County Detention Center.

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — One man has been arrested, but deputies are on the hunt for another, following a drug raid at a Magoffin County home.

Magoffin County sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at a Lakeville home of Eddie McFarland, 34, on Sunday. Sheriff Bill Meade tells Mountain Top News the raid was the culmination of a long drug investigation that resulted in several undercover buys.

Meade said McFarland and another man, Anthony Darrell Saylor, 38, of Salyersville, fled when they saw police coming.

During their search of the home, officers reported seizing a substantial amount of meth, fentanyl and heroin, along with guns, methadone and trafficking paraphernalia.

Monday night, deputies arrested Saylor during a traffic stop. He is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on charges of meth and heroin trafficking and receiving stolen property.

Sheriff Meade said his office is still looking for McFarland. He anticipates that the case will ultimately result in federal charges.
