The blessing box is a small standing wood pantry for people in need, placed in a highly visible area for pedestrians. The items range from non-perishable and canned food to bandages, diapers, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and more.

There are four blessing boxes located in the City of Pikeville. The others are located at the Wesleyan Church on Hambley Blvd., the Church of God on the Bypass and Grace Fellowship on Wolford.

Officials are asking the public to remember the boxes as you come to town.

“We’re running low on supplies at all of the boxes,” said Pikeville Public Safety Director Paul Maynard. “We just want to give out that friendly reminder to people that we need donations. We need this to stay full. It’s not necessarily a homeless problem, it’s more of a hungry problem.”

Officials are hoping to add more blessing boxes in the downtown area to make accessing them easier.
