Martin County, KY — A Martin County man is in jail after fleeing from police Monday night. According to the arrest citation, A Kentucky State Police Trooper observed a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Carl David Daniels, Jr. of Tomahawk, shortly after 11:00 pm, committing several traffic violations including no seatbelts being worn by either the Daniels or the passenger, and improper equipment on the vehicle. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle on KY 40, but the vehicle sped up and turned onto Wooten Road where the driver lost control and ran off the road. Both Daniels and the passenger got out of the vehicle and fled. The Trooper chased Daniels, caught him and Daniels began to resist. After a brief scuffle, Daniels became compliant and was taken into custody without further incident. Daniels told the Trooper his dad, 56-year-old Carl Daniels Sr. was the passenger. Carl Senior was not located. After a search of the vehicle, Troopers found several syringes, a pipe with residue, a small bag with crystal substance believed to be meth. Daniels also had a syringe in his coat pocket. Daniels was determined to be under the influence and taken to Highlands ARH and was medically cleared. Daniels was then transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center and lodged. Daniels was charged with 9 charges which includes Possession of a controlled substance, meth, driving while under the influence, resisting arrest, fleeing/evading police both in a vehicle and on foot and numerous traffic violations.
