Beshear, a Democrat, and Republican Secretary of State Michael Adams worked together to craft a plan to provide safe ways to vote during the coronavirus pandemic.

Under that plan, the state will launch an online portal for allow anyone who is concerned about COVID-19 to request a mail-in ballot. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot will be Oct. 9.

Mail-in ballots will need to be postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 3, and must be received by the county clerk’s office by Nov. 6. In addition, drop boxes will be available for those who are worried about delays with the U.S. Postal Service.

The state will also allow early voting for three weeks before Election Day. County clerks will be required to provide a safe place for voters to cast their ballots Monday through Friday, and for at least four hours each Saturday.

Election sites will determined by county election officials, and at least one voting super-center will be available in each county.

Finally, following the General Assembly’s passage of a voter ID law earlier this year, those who have been unable to obtain a driver’s license or photo ID prior to Election Day will be allowed to sign a document explaining that and then will be allowed to vote.
