Pike Central Sweeps Phelps To Reach District Championship
The Pike Central Lady Hawks picked up a 3-0 win against the Phelps Lady Hornets in the 60th District Volleyball Tournament on Monday. Pike Central took the match with set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-6. Sadie Vaughn led the team in kills with 12, adding three service aces and three digs. On the season, she now has 169 kills, 29 service aces and 47 digs. Annabelle Cantrell significantly contributed to the effort for the Lady Hawks with 27 assists, two service aces and 16 digs. For the season, she now has 513 assists, 46 service aces and 267 digs.

BY COLLAN MCCOY: SPORTS WRITER After a dominant first half, the Kentucky Wildcats football team lost its first game of the season to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 45-17. The loss marks the first of the Will Stein era, giving the Wildcats’ head coach a 1-1 record in his first two games. It was all Paintsville last night when the Lady Tigers beat crosstown Johnson Central 3-0 in volleyball action. Paintsville took the match with set scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-10.
