PAINTSVILLE, Ky. – Johnson Central officials made the announcement Tuesday afternoon that the new head coach of its volleyball program would be the seasoned Andrew Lafferty.

Lafferty said his goal was to establish a “gold standard” for the program.

“Stepping into the role of Head Coach for the Johnson Central volleyball program, my focus is locked squarely on the future,” Lafferty said. “Our mission is to establish a gold standard—one defined by a relentless culture of grit and positivity.”

There are also what he refers to as “pillars” attached to his overall vision for the future.

“We are building this program on the pillars of family, discipline, character, and accountability,” Lafferty continued. “By fostering these values, we will naturally elevate the level of volleyball played on our court. The era of simply competing is over; it is time for the Golden Eagles to consistently contend for championships and become a premier pipeline for collegiate-level talent every single season.”

The new head coach said now is the time to prove how good his players are and what they can expect for rewards with hard work.

“Our goal is clear,” Lafferty said. “It’s time to hang new banners in our gym and add hardware to the trophy case. Nothing with wings can fly as high as an Eagle—now it’s time to prove it.”

PRESS RELEASE: UK ATHLETICS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Eva Hudson had 29 kills Thursday night inside the T-Mobile Center including the match-clinching swing as the top-seeded Kentucky Volleyball team beat third-seeded Wisconsin 3-2 (12-25, 25-22, 21-25, 26-24, 15-13) to advance into Sunday afternoon’s NCAA National Championship match in Kansas City.

The Wildcats will play fellow Southeastern Conference school Texas A&M on Sunday in the 2025 NCAA National Championship match, after the Aggies beat Pittsburgh 3-0 on Thursday night in the first national semifinal. The match will be 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC on Sunday. Wisconsin, who was the Big Ten’s lone remaining team in the NCAA Tournament, finishes its season with a 28-5 overall record and a 17-3 mark in league play.

Hudson had 29 kills in the match, hitting .455 with only four errors on 55 swings. The American Volleyball Coaches’ Association National Player of the Year finalist had seven digs and a pair of blocks in the match as well. Hudson was joined by her teammate Brooklyn DeLeye, who had 15 kills in the match with 14 digs. Freshman Kassie O’Brien in her first-career NCAA Final Four match had 54 assists in the match alongside a pair of kills and nine digs. Brooklyn DeLeye’s five blocks led the match for UK, who registered eight as a team.

Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer had 32 kills in the match to lead all players in the match.

Set 1
Wisconsin took the opening set, 25-12 as the Badgers hit .682 in the first with 15 kills on its 22 swings. The Wildcats were behind from the get-go as Kentucky dropped the opening three points and the Badgers quickly ran their lead to six at 8-2 as UK called its first timeout trailing by a half dozen. The UW lead then grew to nine at 15-6 as UK had to call its second timeout down by a set-high nine points at the time. Wisconsin continued to pile on, scoring on 12 of its first 12 swings and 15 of its 22 in the set to close things out, 25-12. It was the largest margin of defeat in a single set for UK since 2018 when UK lost 25-10 to Nebraska in the Minneapolis Regional semifinal.

Set 2
Kentucky closed the second set on a 6-1 run to even the match and made things 1-1 with a 25-22 second-set victory. The Wildcats never trailed by more than two points the entire set, leading 7-4 in the early stanza with a few stuffs from Lizzie Carr and Kassie O’Brien to get the momentum back on the Wildcats side. Wisconsin took its first timeout after the longest rally of the match made things 16-15 in favor of the Badgers and UK responded by squaring the set at 20-20, the first tie of the set since things were 14-14 before the media timeout. With things at 20 all, Kentucky then ran off six of the last seven points led by Eva Hudson’s four terminations in the red zone to hand Kentucky the set, 25-22. UK picked up set point at 24-20 and called a timeout after UW ran off two points in a row to make things 24-22, but a first-ball sideout by Hudson on the left pin ended the set and Kentucky squared the match. In the second set, UK hit .258 with the Badgers hitting .229. Through two sets, UK had Eva Hudson with nine kills leading the way and 17 assists from Kassie O’Brien and six digs from Molly Tuozzo.

Set 3
The Badgers took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-21 third-set victory. UW hit .386 in the set with 21 kills to only four errors with Kentucky clipping the ball at a .333 clip, but seeing the luck in the set run out on a 3-0 Badger run to close things out and hand the Badgers the 2-1 lead in the match. Kentucky fell down 12-7 in the opening parts of the set before slowly chipping away to pull within two points at 16-14 and close to within two for the first time since it was 9-7. Wisconsin called a timeout with UK on a 3-0 run having crept to 21-20 and only needing one point to square the set. Out of the Badger timeout, Kentucky had a hitting error on an extended rally and then UW won a challenge to make things 24-21 and closed out the set on a touch off the block to win the set, 25-21. Through three set, UK was hitting .326 as a team, but was struggling with the UW offense with Wisconsin hitting .396 as a team and Mimi Collier having 22 kills on 42 swings with a .395 hitting efficiency. Eva Hudson led Kentucky with 14 kills on 32 swings adding in seven digs and a pair of blocks.

Set 4
Kentucky managed to force the match to a decisive fifth set with a 26-24 fourth set victory as UK hit .270 and won it on its fourth set point to seal the deal and send the match to a fifth set. UK fell behind early in the set with UW leading by a pair of sideouts at 13-10 before a successful Kentucky challenge made things 13 all and things were back to square one. Kentucky took a 15-13 lead into the media timeout thanks to an ace by Molly Tuozzo that clipped the net and that would be UK’s largest lead of the set before a kill by Eva Hudson made things 19-16 and UW burned its first timeout. Wisconsin pulled back into things with the Badgers pulling to within 21-20 and making things a one-point set. Kentucky worked around a Badger timeout to arrive at set point with a 24-21 lead and saw all three set points evaporate as things were evened again at 24 all. UK got a thunderous kill from Brooklyn DeLeye for 25-24 and then a kill for the Wildcats on an extended rally ended the set as UK forced things to a fifth at 26-24.

Set 5
Kentucky jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to lethal swings in transition and the Wildcats were ahead 6-1 before the blink of an eye as Trinity Ward was serving bullets and pushed UK into the lead with a 5-0 service run after things were square at 1-1. Wisconsin then brought itself off the deck as the teams changed sides with UK leading 8-2 and the Badgers saw themselves get to within 8-5 after a quick 3-0 run. A crushing blow by Brooklyn DeLeye got UK back on track to a sideout and Kentucky got to 10 first at 10-6. Kentucky picked up match point at 14-11 and after a hitting error by UK and a transition kill by UW, the Wildcats called for their first timeout needing one sideout for the match. The serve by UW was sent to Hudson who passed to O’Brien off the net and Hudson buried her 29th kill of the match to the floor to seal the deal.

O’Brien was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Year last month after steering the Wildcats to a 15-0 SEC record, outright championship, and the 2025 SEC Volleyball Tournament title while also being voted first team all-conference. The freshman from Katy, Texas is averaging 11.02 assists per set on the season and in the NCAA Tournament is averaging a sensational 13.15 assists per set while leading the Kentucky offense to the tune of a .345 hitting efficiency number in postseason play this season.

The Alice Lloyd College volleyball team just wrapped up what might honestly be the best season the program has ever seen.

This wasn’t just a good year. This was a program turning the corner, and checking off “firsts” like it was a to-do list.

Let’s start with a look at some of the accomplishments, beginning with the big one: 24 wins. That’s the most in school history. They didn’t just break the previous record of 15, they blew past it. They went undefeated in Mideast Conference play for the first time.

But the history-making didn’t stop there. The Lady Eagles captured their first NCCAA Mideast Conference Championship, punched a non-bid ticket to the National Tournament for the first time and then picked up their first National Tournament win. They even pulled off the program’s first-ever national tournament upset, knocking off the defending champs, the No. 2 seed, like it was nothing.

This team stayed inside the Top 10 in the NCCAA Power Rankings all season, climbing as high as fourth. They also grabbed their first win over NAIA power Georgetown College, and their first wins over NCAA Division II opponents. Somewhere in the middle of all that, they stacked up the program’s first nine-game win streak.

Alice Lloyd finished 5th in the nation. Let that sink in.

Individually, it gets even better.

Libero Gracie Gibson became the first player in program history to earn NCCAA Mideast Conference MVP, and she shattered the single-season digs record with 493.
Middle blocker Christa Amburgey grabbed the program’s first NAIA First Team All-Conference selection and set a new single-season blocks record with 105.
Senior middle blocker Kyleah Ward broke two career records, 801 kills and 274 blocks.
Freshman setter Peyton Taylor led the entire nation in assists with 1,012, breaking the program’s single-season assists record in the process.

All of this comes just two years after the program won only four games. They went 4-29 in 2023, 7-28 in 2024 and now 24-10 with a conference title and a national run.

Head coach Kayla Moore VanHoose, picked up the program’s first-ever Mideast Coach of the Year award. She earned every bit of it.

This wasn’t just a good season. It was a statement.

Press Release: UK Athletics

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Behind a new career-high 25 digs from junior libero Molly Tuozzo, the top-seeded Kentucky Volleyball team beat (4) Tennessee 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-23) in four sets Monday night at the 2025 Allstate SEC Volleyball Tournament inside Enmarket Arena.

With the win, Kentucky advances to the championship match against (2) Texas A&M or (3) Texas on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET live on SEC Network with Eric Frede, Emily Ehman and Michella Chester on the call from Savannah.

In a similar script to the regular season meeting in Historic Memorial Coliseum, the Lady Vols jumped out to a one set to none lead over the Wildcats before UK then won the next three successive sets to make things 3-1 in favor of UK.

Brooklyn DeLeye had 22 kills on 46 swings Monday night as she hit .370 for the match and her cohort on the pin, Eva Hudson, hit .220 with 18 kills on 59 swings as the Wildcats hit .253 as a team. Kassie O’Brien had 46 assists in the match with Molly Tuozzo logging a career-high tying eight assists for UK to go alongside her new career-high 25 digs in the match as Kentucky held Tennessee to .208 hitting for the match and under .250 for the final two set, including a .022 hitting set in the third.

Lizzie Carr had nine kills in the match as she hit .364 on the night with an assist, three digs and a team-leading five blocks.

Set 1
As was the case in the regular-season meeting in Lexington, the Lady Vols took the opening set from the Wildcats, closing the frame on a 7-2 run after the opening set had 13 ties and eight lead changes throughout. Kentucky took a multi-point lead for the first time at 11-9 and that was UK’s largest lead before the set got to 18 all. At 18-18, Tennessee went on a 6-0 run that encompassed two timeouts by the Wildcats before a Brooklyn DeLeye kill closed the run at 6-0 with UK getting to 24-19. Tennessee eventually closed out the set on its third set point out of a timeout to win the opener, 25-20. UK hit a miniscule .140 in the set, one of its lowest offensive outputs of the season as Tennessee hit .279 with the Lady Vols notching 16 kills to four assists and Kentucky having 14 kills and seven errors with three Tennessee blocks thrown in.

Set 2
Kentucky tied the match with a 25-22 second set win by playing much cleaner volleyball and outhitting the Lady Vols in the set .351 to .317. UK forced Tennessee into an early timeout after the Wildcats took a 10-7 lead on a 4-0 run and Tennessee would then chip away only to see Kentucky reinstate its four-point lead at 17-13 in the midway part of the set. Tennessee then went on a 4-0 run, its longest run of the set, to tie things at 17-17 and Kentucky blew for its first timeout of the set with UT even for the first time since it was 7-7. Kentucky won the next five-straight points out of the timeout on Trinity Ward’s service run to make things 22-17 and with UK leading by five, UT burned its final timeout. Kentucky won the set 25-22 on its fourth set point and closed out the frame to square the match. Brooklyn DeLeye had 11 kills on 23 swings to lead all Wildcats through two sets of action with Eva Hudson knocking on the door of double figures on eight kills and Kassie O’Brien had 25 assists on 30 UK kills through the opening two sets and Molly Tuozzo had 13 digs to lead all players in the match.

Set 3
The Wildcats continued their high level of play in the third set, taking the frame wire to wire with a 25-15 third-set victory. Kentucky got four kills from behind the setter from the arm of supersub Jordyn Dailey who hit .400 in the frame and Kentucky hit .295 as a team with Brooklyn DeLeye having 16 kills after the set was over. The set though was all about UK’s floor defense as Molly Tuozzo’s backline held Tennessee to .022 for the frame with nine kills and eight errors from the Lady Vols with Kentucky also getting a pair of blocks in the set. Kentucky took a 10-6 lead and with its lead at four, it saw Tennessee call for its first timeout. Out of the timeout, the Lady Vols won two points, but then Kentucky ran off nine of the next 12 to take a 19-10 lead, its largest of the match in any set to that point. The UK lead grew to double digits at 10 for the first time at 24-14 and a kill by Lizzie Carr out of the middle got the Wildcats to set point with a 10-point cushion before a Tennessee attack error, its eighth of the set, ended the frame and Kentucky took a 2-1 lead for the match with a 25-15 third-set win.

Set 4
Kentucky jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the fourth set and was hitting over .600 as a team before Tennessee responded with a 4-0 run and pushed the Wildcats into a timeout. The Lady Vols took their first lead of the set when they led 15-14 and that lead was two at 16-14, one fewer than the largest lead for UT at 19-16 which prompted a Kentucky timeout, their last. Brooklyn DeLeye and Brooke Bultema ignited a 3-0 run with a pair of DeLeye kills and a Bultema block that sent the score to 19 all and Tennessee burned its final timeout with things even at 19’s. Kentucky then sided out to make things 22 all and Tennessee got an overpass kill to make things 23-22 in favor of the Orange and White. Kentucky then closed the match on a 3-0 run with a UT net fault closing out the match despite a last-ditch hail mary challenge from the UT staff.

Press Release: UK Athletics

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The top-seeded Kentucky Volleyball team beat eighth-seeded Auburn 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) in three sets Sunday afternoon in the 2025 SEC Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals behind 15 kills from Brooklyn DeLeye and a 13-kill, no-error performance by Eva Hudson.

The sweep marked Kentucky’s return to the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2005, when the event was last held in Craig Skinner’s first year as Kentucky’s head coach. With the win, UK advances into Monday night’s semifinals, where it will play the winner of (4) Tennessee and (5) Florida at 6 p.m. ET with the match televised live on SEC Network as Eric Frede, Emily Ehman and Michella Chester will have the call.

Kentucky hit .349 for the match, just one point shy of its third-straight match hitting above .350 as a team. UK had DeLeye and Hudson eclipse the 10+ kill mark and Lizzie Carr had eight kills on her 15 swings to hit .400 for the afternoon. Kassie O’Brien ran the UK offense with 42 assists on 46 of Kentucky’s kills in the match as the SEC Freshman of the Year also had 10 digs for another double-double to her name.

UK’s strong defense held the Tigers to .168 hitting for the match, including under .150 for two sets of the match, sets one and three. Molly Tuozzo and Kassie O’Brien both had 10 digs to lead all players for the Wildcats in that category with O’Brien’s three blocks leading UK’s effort in the block department as Kentucky outblocked the Tigers 6-4, with Auburn entering the match as the SEC’s best statistical blocking team. UK had four blocks alone in the third set with two of them belonging to the freshman, O’Brien.

Kentucky was presented with the SEC Championship trophy prior to the match.

Set 1
Kentucky hit .297 and won the first set with a 25-15 triumph over the Tigers. Kassie O’Brien dished out 13 assists for the Wildcats as Brooklyn DeLeye had five kills and Eva Hudson had four kills in the opening frame as two of the five different Wildcats who put up a kill to their name in the set. UK held Auburn to a .111 hitting percentage for the set with UK outdigging the Tigers, 20-14. Auburn took an early timeout with Kentucky on a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead in the beginning stages of the frame. Auburn then found itself on the receiving end of a 4-1 UK run and the Tigers asked for time with the Kentucky lead at 17-10. The Wildcats rode the arms of DeLeye and Hudson to grow the lead even more out of the timeout as it was 21-11 following a Kennedy Washington kill out of the middle for her third termination and UK arrived at set point leading, 24-13 and after AU sided out and got a point on its serve, a kill from Brooklyn DeLeye closed the set and Kentucky took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-15 opening set victory.

Set 2
After Auburn took a 15-14 lead going into the media timeout of the second set, it was a 3-0 run out of the stoppage that pushed Kentucky into the lead for good as the Wildcats won a 25-20 second set to take a 2-0 lead overall in the match. Kentucky continued to club the ball well at a .371 rate for the set with 16 kills to just three hitting errors in the frame with Kentucky raising its match-long hitting percentage to .333 after the second set. UK held Auburn to .265 for the set on 24 kills to five errors and each team recorded a block in the set that was primarily dominated by both side’s offenses. Craig Skinner won his 25th challenge of the season to push the Kentucky lead to 18-16 on a net fault and that lead doubled to four on a kill from Eva Hudson out of the back row to make things 20-16 as Auburn called its first timeout of the set, down a set-high four points. Kentucky then went on another extended run in the late parts of the frame to make things 24-18 and as UK pushed things to set point, AU called its final timeout. Kentucky then sided out on the third set point to close things out, 25-20. Brooklyn DeLeye became the first player to cross into double-digit kills with 11 through two sets and Kassie O’Brien had a match-high 28 assists.

Set 3
Kentucky hit .382 in the third set to push over the finish line and close out the match in three sets, although set three was the tightest of the day. The Tigers jumped out to a 5-2 lead, with its three-point lead the largest of any point in the match to that point. The lead was trimmed to one at 7-6 before UK got a transition kill from Asia Thigpen to get the set back on level terms. Kentucky had to call its only timeout of the match at 15-15 after UK had jumped out to a 15-12 lead and pushing the Tigers into their first timeout three points earlier. The two teams exchanged timeouts through the end of the set before back-to-back UK kills in out-of-system balls pushed the Wildcats into a 21-19 lead and AU called its final timeout. Auburn punched back to tie things at 22-22 but it was a 3-0 run to close the match by Kentucky that saw the end of the set as UK won in three sets with a 25-22 final set victory.
