PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — A Johnson County man has now been indicted for the murder of his daughter.
A grand jury charged Stacy Collins, 47, of Van Lear, with the murder and kidnapping of his daughter, 12-year-old Stacia, back on Aug. 11.
Collins had originally been charged with just murder. The addition of the kidnapping charge now means he could be eligible for the death penalty, if the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office decides to pursue it.
Collins is accused of shooting and killing his daughter at an old strip mine. Police say he then turned the gun on himself, but he survived.
He is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville on a $50,000 cash bond.
