The Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce awarded a total of more than $5,000 in grant funds to several local schools recently.
Schools in Knott, Letcher, Pike and Lawrence counties were all named as recipients for the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Education grants.
Jones Fork Elementary in Knott County received a grant to purchase six iPads to help students learn computer coding. Knott Central High School received grant funds to establish an outdoor classroom/small amphitheater. Fleming-Neon Elementary School in Letcher County received funds to replace outdated data technology, and bring the school up to day with Next Generation Science Standards. Pikeville Elementary School received funds to utilize Dash and Dot Robots, that can be used to promote creativity and sharpen problem solving skills. And Louisa East Elementary received grant funds to purchase Ozobots, to help promote coding skills.
The grants were funded through the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s Education Foundation, which is, in-part, funded through an annual golf scramble event.
A total of $5,415 dollars were aware to this year’s grant recipients.
