FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases at a Kentucky state prison are expected to increase, Gov. Andy Beshear said Sunday.

Beshear
said at his daily news briefing that test results are expected Monday
from the Green River Correctional Complex in Muhlenberg County.

“They’re going to be pretty tough numbers to see,” Beshear said.

An outbreak at the prison led to the facility’s entire population being tested. At least one inmate has died from the virus.

The prison has 982 inmates, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Overall, there have been at least 5,130 positive cases and 253 deaths from the virus in Kentucky, Beshear said.

For
most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such
as fever and cough that clear up within weeks. For some, especially
older adults and those with existing health problems, it can cause more
severe illness, even death.
