Martin County, Ky: A citizens group has scored a victory in the continuing investigation into Martin County Water District. The Kentucky Public Service Commission has been looking into Martin County Water’s long history of problems with water quality and significant water loss. Last year, Martin County Concerned Citizens was allowed to intervene in the case to promote the interests of the utility’s customers. In April, the group filed a request for information from Martin County Water, but the following day, the utility said it would not respond to the request, citing an order that it only needed to respond to requests from the PSC. Yesterday, however, the PSC said Martin County Water took the commission’s order out of context. The utility must now respond to the request made by Martin County Concerned Citizens by May 17th.
