A two vehicle crash in Johnson County has closed both north and southbound lanes of US 23 around 5.5 miles north of Paintsville.

Officials tell EKB News that there has been one fatality as a result of the crash.

One of the vehicles involved a Pike County Sheriff’s cruiser which was hauling a prisoner. The deputy was injured in the crash.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
