Pikeville, Ky.–A West Virginia woman who had been lodged in the Pike County Detention Center over the weekend was found unresponsive and  transferred to PMC where she was later pronounced deceased.

According to the arrest citation, it began in the Turkey Creek area when Kentucky State Police responded to a call of a female falsely reporting an incident claiming to need an ambulance.  Upon arrival the Trooper recognized the woman, 49-year old Teressa Bryant of Delbarton, from an earlier incident at Tug Valley ARH where medical staff reported she had been there twice as well as Williamson Memorial complaining of pain and was discharged all three times without anything being found wrong.

Appearing under the influence Bryant was searched and was found to have narcotics and syringes in her possession. She was arrested and charged with public intoxication, illegal possession of a legend drug, drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespass and then lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

While there Bryant’s health took a turn for the worse.

“At nine o’clock when a female guard went back to check on her and make sure she was responsive and communicating she was fine. She talked to Mrs. Bryant. When she went back on her next 20-minute check, which was 9:20 and was logged and on video, she went back and found Mrs. Bryant unresponsive. When she was found unresponsive my staff automatically called 911. They began CPR on Mrs. Bryant and performed CPR on her all the way to the ambulance.”

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Lewis went on to give his condolences to Bryant’s family and praise his staff for doing all they could do to help her.
