Williamson, WV — Two Mingo County men have been arrested after they apparently cut wire at an Appalachian Electric Power substation. According to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Kenneth Lee Cyrus of Wharncliffe and 25-year-old Keith Andrew Prater of Delbarton face charges after wire worth more than $2,500 was cut at the AEP substation at Sprigg, WV. According to criminal complaints filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court, Cyrus cut the fence to the substation, and cut the wire and attempted to remove the wire. Prater drove Cyrus to the substation and then picked him up. Mingo County Sheriff Deputies stopped the vehicle Prater and Cyrus was in and found bolt cutters and a piece of ground wire. Deputies stated that Cyrus also had a machete beside him on the passenger seat. Cyrus was charged with attempted grand larceny, concealed deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit destruction of property and conspiracy to commit grand larceny. Prater was charged with improper registration, attempted grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny and conspiracy to commit destruction of property. Both men are currently lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail on $10,000 cash only bonds.
