Anti-gun violence vigil held in Pikeville

Pikeville, Ky- In a time when the issue of gun violence is at the forefront of almost everyone’s mind, not only nationally but locally, nearly two dozen people gathered at the Pikeville city park despite the snowy weather to hold a candlelight vigil to remember those effected by gun violence. During the vigil each person shared their own personal story of why it was important to attend the event.

“I’m a mother of a young daughter who is about to be school age, and I’m terrified of the thought of sending her to school. It shouldn’t have to be a fear of mine and it shouldn’t have to be a fear of hers. So, I am trying to make changes so that when I send my daughter to school, she is safe. This is one of nine hundred events that is happening nationally. We want our collective voices to be heard, so we can urge our representatives to take the issue of gun safety seriously. The time is now, enough is enough.”

Progress Pike plans to hold a unity rally on April 28th, on the one-year anniversary of the Nazi rally that was held in downtown Pikeville. For more information on Progress Pike, simply visit them on Facebook.
