It took some work, but Jefferson, a Bald Eagle that calls Fishtrap Lake in Pike County home, is back airborne once again.
The eagle from Fishtrap Lake has been treated by Somerset-based Liberty Nature Center over the past two months for life threatening injuries. He was found severely wounded after what experts believe to have been a fight with another eagle.
Frances Carter, CEO of Liberty Nature Center, said she did not believe Jefferson would live through the ordeal.
But, Saturday afternoon, Jefferson, now well, was set free.
When he was originally found, Jefferson had numerous injuries. During his treatment, Jefferson lost one of his toes. The folks a Liberty Nature Center and several veterinarians and bird experts nursed Jefferson back to health.
Jefferson got to return home on Memorial Day weekend, a coincidence not lost on those who cared for him since March.
Liberty Nature Center funded Jefferson’s rehabilitation. For more information, visit the organization’s Facebook page.
