BELFRY, Ky. — Frankfort was not the only area of the state where teachers were demonstrating. A two-hour support rally was held Friday afternoon at Belfry Middle School.
Teachers, staff and community members of Belfry area schools lined the fence at the middle school in support of state employees.
Everyone was encouraged to wear red. Signs were also made to support state workers.
While many teachers and state employees were at the Capitol letting their voices be heard, those back home were letting them know they support them.
“Every time we do this, it grows,” said organizer Marina Kennedy. “We’ve had a very good turnout today.
“I had teachers contact me the last time and they were like, ‘You know, it meant a lot to us that while we were there, you know it was chilly back here and [you] stood out just to show [your] support for [us].’ That meant a lot to them. And, I figured, if they can go down there and spend hours down there and hours traveling, then we can do this.”
Organizers say the Belfry area plans to host a support rally every time teachers travel to the capital. They plan to rotate locations between the high school, elementary school, and middle school.
