Beshear says virus numbers show Kentucky’s steps are working

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear says the steps the state has taken to curtail the coronavirus over the past month are working, as the state is continuing to see the number of cases drop.

Over the four-day holiday weekend, Kentucky saw more than 6,800 new cases reported — which is a drop of more than 1,500 over the previous three-day total last weekend. That brings the total to more than 257,000.

Eighty-nine more Kentuckians have died from the virus, including 53 on Christmas Eve. That raises the death toll to 2,555.

More than 1,500 Kentuckians are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 — a drop of 17 percent since the peak on Dec. 3.

Of those, 411 are in intensive care and 217 are on ventilators.
The state’s positivity rate is currently 8.04 percent.
