Charleston, WV — Former Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship has announced he is running for president. Blankenship, who last year ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate, announced the move during the Constitution Party’s national committee meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Blankenship finished third in last year’s Republican primary in West Virginia. Blankenship served a one-year prison sentence for conspiring to violate federal mine safety standards regarding the Upper Big Branch Mine explosion. Blankenship switched his party registration to Democrat earlier this year. According to state records, he is re-registered with the Constitution Party.
