Mingo County, WV.–20-year-old Brandon Lee Fitzpatrick, of Louisa, was found guilty Thursday evening of first-degree felony murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. After the jury returned the verdict, Fitzpatrick made a plea agreement.
He will serve life in prison with a recommendation of mercy. Both sides agreed to accept the plea agreement. Brandon Fitzpatrick’s sentencing is scheduled for January 18th at 10 a.m. Fitzpatrick was found guilty in the shooting death of former coal company executive Bennett K. Hatfield. Hatfield was allegedly shot in the back while cleaning his wife’s and in-law’s graves at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher on Memorial Day weekend last year. His alleged co-conspirator 22-year-old Anthony Raheem Arriaga was found guilty in October of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of conspiracy.
