Prestonsburg, Ky.–An agreement was signed today by both Presidents of Big Sandy Community and Technical College and the University of Pikeville to give students a leg up who are interested in the field of optometry. The agreement gives BSCTC graduates priority access to the last two years of their undergraduate program at Upike and then automatic acceptance into the Kentucky College of Optometry at the University. University of Pikeville President, Burton Webb, hopes this agreement will influence students to stay in the area.

“One of the things that is really important for keeping our best and brightest students in eastern Kentucky is giving them the opportunity to be educated here so that their education can translate into a life well lived here locally. We would love for our best students to start here at a place like Big Sandy and come to the University of Pikeville then form a life here in eastern Kentucky so they can stay and find the place they grew up is still home.”
