LOUISA, KY.–A Lawrence County man is behind bars after allegedly being caught red-handed burglarizing an abandoned house.
It happened at a North Rice Street residence in Louisa when the Louisa Police Department responded to the call of someone putting items through the window of a house.
29-year old Eugene Cochran of Louisa was found at the residence with a backpack containing several pieces of copper piping, a circuit breaker switch and a large pipe wrench. Police say Cochran told them that he knew nobody lived at the address and didn’t want the items to go unused and intended to sell them to buy cigarettes. He was also found to have a set of wire cutters and a screwdriver in his pocket and then allegedly stated that other people had stolen stuff from the house so he thought he would too.
Cochran was arrested and charged with 2nd degree burglary and possession of burglary tools and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
