Corrections officer arrested on drug charges

IMG_0908PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County Corrections Officer is behind bars tonight, after allegedly attempting to bring drugs into the Pike County Detention Center.
According to a statement released by Pike County Jailer Freddie Lewis, he, along with the Pikeville Police Department, Kentucky State Police, the US Marshall Service and FBI, had been conducting an investigation for several weeks due to suspicious phone calls being made from the jail.

Acting on a tip of a suspected drug drop off at the jail today, police approached 47-year old David Emmons, a guard at the jail, after he was seen leaving the suspected drop off location.

According to the arrest citation, when police confronted Emmons, he allegedly told them that he knew why they were there and showed the officers several bags of tobacco he had in his shirt pocket with the intentions of taking them into the jail. Inside the bags of tobacco were 16-orange tablets believed to be suboxone. Emmons allegedly told officers he had brought similar items into the Pike County Detention Center on four other occasions. He also had $100 in cash in his possession, which is suspected payment for the drop off.

“We cannot and will not tolerate contraband and drugs being bought into the jail,” Lewis said. “Our officers, along with the new captain, Jason Fields, should be commended for the hard work they have done to try our best to keep it out if we can catch it.”

David Emmons is charged with first-degree promoting contraband and second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance. He remains lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
