Update: Suspicious Package Found In Floyd County

4pm Update:

There were some tense moments today after a suspicious package was discovered in Floyd County.

It all happened shortly before noon when an employee of the IRS Office in Prestonsburg checked the mail, finding a suspicious package. The package, which appeared to be postmarked from another country, was taken to Archer Park while law enforcement as well as Floyd and Pike County Emergency Management Offices investigated.

Just after 1pm, the package was cleared and no threat was found.

Inside the package were a few random documents and two pennies.

The package was turned back over to the IRS office in Prestonsburg to be disposed of.

Original Post: Law enforcement and crews from Floyd and Pike County Emergency Management are on the scene of a suspicious package that was discovered before noon at a Prestonsburg business.

EKB News has been told the package has been moved to Archer Park and testing is underway to determine if the package could pose a threat.
