HINDMAN, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police Hazardous Devices Unit was called to Knott County over the weekend after police found an explosive device in a vehicle following a traffic stop. On Friday, Troopers stopped a vehicle driven by 35 year old Taylor Combs in Hindman after seeing it weave on and off the road. According to the arrest citation, a KSP K-9 unit detected the odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle, which prompted a search. Inside, troopers found a black box containing suspected meth, heroin, scales and several plastic bags. In the center console, police found a handgun. However, the KSP Hazardous Devices Unit was deployed to the scene after troopers located an explosive device in the dashboard. Officials at Post 13 in Hazard say the device was determined to be a commercially manufactured explosive device, but was disarmed without incident and removed. Taylor Combs and a passenger, 34 year old Nancy Brewer were arrested. Both are charged with first degree trafficking in Meth and Heroin and felony wanton endangerment of a police officer. Both remain lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
