Floyd County, Ky.—According to a press release issued by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department the crash happened Thursday night on Route 979, in the Grethel community, when a 2006 Hyundai driven by 37-year old Chris Hamilton, collided with an oncoming vehicle, a 1999 Ford driven by 43-year old Kimberly Akers. Both Hamilton and Akers were transported to Pikeville Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. A passenger in the Hyundai, 38-year old Heidi Hamilton of Harold died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The collision remains under investigation by Sgt. Kevin Shepherd and Deputy Oliver Little of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department. Pike County Accident Reconstructionist Deputy Eddie Crum is assisting in the investigation.
