MARTIN COUNTY, KY.–Expecting couples often find innovative ways to reveal to family and friends whether their bundle of joy will be a boy or a girl. However, one family’s announcement ended up causing an uproar in Martin County. EKB News Reporter Shawn Allen has the story.

EKB News has followed the story of the water issues facing the residents of Martin County and now a water issue of another king has surfaced as a video posted on social media showing an Inez Volunteer Fire Engine being used in a gender reveal to announce the birth of a baby boy of one of the fireman. Fire Chief Lee Gauze says that the comments on the social media post have affected the family.

“Two people that have the best thing in their life is having a child and to get that gender reveal tarnished the way it’s been tarnished by social media and the way people talks about it…they’re tore all to pieces over it.”

Chief Gauze went on to say that the fire engines are not city owned, they are privately owned and the water used during the gender reveal was paid for by the fireman.

“They used the fire truck. I approved of that. That firefighter actually went to the water department and paid for 1,000 gallons of water. We are a private non for profit organization. We report financial things to the county because our fire fees come from the county, but other than that they don’t have any say so in how the fire department is ran, that’s left up to the board of directors.”

Officials with the Martin County Water District say there is no water crisis at this time. The drinking water is currently in compliance with the division of water and there is no water shortage, all residents in the county are getting water in their homes except for a few in the higher elevations due to low pressure there.
