PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Floyd County man arrested back in July after being accused of assaulting his wife and holding her prisoner has now been indicted in the case.
James Chadwick Burchett, 41, of Ivel, was arrested July 28 after police received a domestic violence complaint from Highlands ARH Medical Center.
The woman told police Burchett accused her of cheating on him and believed she had other men hidden in their apartment. She said he hit her, held a knife to her throat, and choked her until she lost consciousness. She also said he screwed the doors shut to keep her from leaving and threatened to kill her. The woman said she was finally able to escape after 11 hours.
Burchett was arrested at the time on charges of second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. He was indicted on those same charges last week.
The assault and strangulation charges are Class C felonies, punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison. Burchett is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
