Food City awards thousands of dollars to local food pantries

PIKEVILLE, Ky. –  Tuesday afternoon, local food pantries and churches that have food distribution ministries, gathered at Food City in Pikeville to receive thousands of dollars in Food City gift cards as a result of the annual Food City Race Against Hunger campaign. Store managers from 12 area Food City stores gathered at the Cassady Boulevard location to make the presentations, which ranged from  $1,000 to $6,000 dollars.  Company wide, the Race Against Hunger campaign, which relies on customers making donations at Food City registers, raised $446,000 dollars this year alone.  The Food City Race Against Hunger campaign has been raising money for local food pantries since 1992.
