BUCKLEYS CREEK, Ky. — Pike Central High School students and staff are mourning, after a former teacher was found dead over the weekend.

Madonna Lowe was found in her family’s swimming pool by her husband around 1 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts pronounced her dead at 1:30.

At this time, the cause of death is undetermined. Lowe’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s officer for further investigation.

Until her retirement in December, Lowe was a social studies teacher at Pike Central. According to the school’s Facebook page, Lowe served for years as the school’s Advanced Placement coordinator, academic team coach and cross-country coach.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
