Prestonsburg, Ky.–Girl Scout Troop 5185 of Prestonsburg was as busy as Santa’s Elves making Christmas ornaments for a very special tree.  The troop was recently selected to make ornaments that will be used to decorate the National Christmas Tree at the White House. The girls made traditional ornaments as well as Kentucky themed ornaments.

Elexas Hatton: “This is one of the ornaments that our girls have created. It is actually a Nativity scene filled with hay and straw, it has the night painted in the back with the little stars. We have one ornament that has coal and a light bulb in it. Its Friends of Coal use resources wisely. We’ve bought just a lot of supplies and they have just kinda…”

Girl Scout: “and we’re making something out of dough and they’re gonna make them into ornaments.”

Elexas Hatton: “We’re making Girl Scouts Cookies out of salt dough.”

Hatton went on to say that she hopes she and her girls get the chance to go see the National Tree
