GIRLS SOCCER: LAWRENCE SNEAKS PAST BELFRY & OTHER AREA SCORES

The Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs leaned on a stingy defense and just enough offense Tuesday night to edge Belfry 1-0 in girls soccer action.

Sophomore Violet Preece provided the difference-maker, scoring the match’s only goal off an assist from Paula Corominas. The score was Preece’s second of the season, while Corominas, who already has four goals to her name, picked up her first assist.

In net, goalkeeper Emalynn Kitts came up big for the Lady Bulldogs, recording 10 saves to preserve the shutout.

The win evens Lawrence County’s record at 6-6-1, while Belfry slips to 5-5. The Lady Bulldogs will face Paintsville on Thursday at 8 p.m. Belfry will also be back in action that evening, traveling to Pikeville for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Individual stats for Belfry players were not available at press time.

Elsewhere in girls soccer Tuesday night, Johnson Central rolled past Prestonsburg 9-1, and Letcher Central blanked Paintsville 8-0.
