HIGH SCHOOL: Area football teams among state’s longest winning streaks

State champions Pikeville, Belfry and Johnson Central enter the 2020 high school football with state-leading winning streaks.

Class 4A champion Johnson Central has won 15 straight games while Class 1A champion Pikeville enters riding a 14-game winning streak. Class 3A champion Belfry had won five straight games, all coming in the post season one year ago.

The other three champions are Trinity, Cov-Cath and Somerset.

Here is a look at the top six winning streaks:

15 – Covington Catholic (Class 5A)

15 – Johnson Central (Class 4A)

14 – Pikeville (Class 1A)

8 – Trinity (Class 6A)

7 – Somerset (Class 2A)

5 – Belfry (Class 3A)
