HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Tigers hammer Lions; Jaguars sweep Hornets

Paintsville pounded out 14 hits as the Tigers rolled to a 13-5 win over host Boyd County in the Derby Classic played in Cannonsburg on Saturday.

Gunner Collins had two hits, including a home run, scored twice and drove in five runs as Paintsville improved to 17-3. Jonah porter added five singles and scored three runs while driving in one. Frederick James and Corry Jefferson each had two hits and added an RBI apiece.

Connor Fugate was the winning pitcher.

Pikeville, now 9-8, had leads of 3-0 and 5-3 before the Lions rallied.

Logan Windle doubled, walked, scored, and knocked in one run. Blake Birchfield added two singles and scored two runs. Tate Walters singled, walked, and scored.

Dylan Thompson was tagged with the loss.

Baron Ratliff led the Tigers, now 16-3, with two singles. He walked, scored, and batted in two runs as the Highlanders snapped Paintsville’s 10-game winning streak.

Ashton Miller doubled in one run and scored. Grayson Peters added two hits, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI.
