HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: JC tops Betsy Layne; Tug Valley nips Mingo Central

Johnson Central pulled away from Betsy Layne in the final seven minutes to score a 74-61 win in a game played at Junior Newsome Arena on Tuesday night.

Isaiah May fired in 22 points and went over 2,000 career points as the Golden Eagles improved to 17-2.  Cory VanHoose followed with 19 and Ryleh McKenzie added 12.

Jordan Frazier led the Bobcats, now 10-8, with 21 points. Chase Mims and Brady Robinson tossed in 11 each. Andrew Kidd chipped in eight.

Tug Valley rallied late to slip past Mingo Central, 62-59, in a game played on Tuesday night at Naugatuck.

Caleb May finished with a game-high 23 points to lead the Panthers, now 2-0. Easton Davis followed with 14 and Ethan Colegrove net eight.

Justin May paced the Miners (0-2) with 12 points and Zion Martin added 10. Steven Smith tossed in nine.
