HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: JC tops Paintsville; Tug Valley edges Lawrence County

Johnson Central went across town and beat Paintsville, 47-40, in a game played on Bill Mike Runyon Court on Wednesday night.

Sammie Sires led the Lady Eagles (18-4) with 17 points and Kelci Blair tossed in 12. Taylor McKenzie added eight.

Leandra Curnutte paced the Lady Tigers (13-8) with 13 points while Chloe Hannah finished with 10. Emilea Preece chipped in eight.

Tug Valley withstood Lawrence County’s comeback bid as the Lady Panthers edged the Lady Bulldogs, 73-71, in overtime at the Dawg House on Wednesday night.

Kaylea Baisden fired in 26 points and Makayla May added 22 as Tug Valley improved to 2-1. Alyssa Newsome scored 11 and Audrey Evans tallied eight.

Kensley Feltner poured in a game-high 34 points and the sophomore went over 2,000 career points as the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 16-10. Sophie Adkins followed with 14 while Ellie Webb added 12. Kaison Ward tossed in nine.
