HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pike Central tops Phelps; Belfry edges LCC

Pike Central took charge early on and cruised to a 52-20 win over Phelps in a district game played at the Hawks nest on Wednesday night.

Hannah May led the way with 18 points as Centra moved to 7-17. Allie Spears and Abigail Hess added 10 each.

Amelia Casey scored 10 for Phelps, now 2-9.

Belfry rallied down the stretch to escape Letcher Central, 38-36, in a game played at LCCHS Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Kyera Thornsbury led the Lady Pirates (15-6) with 17 points. Cushi Fletcher tossed in nine.

Kaylee Banks had 17 of the Lady Cougars, now 11-10. Keira Couch  added nine.

Paintsville continued its solid play as the Lady Tigers rolled past Hazard, 66-27, in a game played on Bill Mike Runyon Court on Wednesday night.

Emilea Preece led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points as the Lady Tigers improved to 12-6. Chloe Hannah followed with 15 and Camryn Helton added 10. Leandra Curnutte net nine.

Prestonsburg went on the road and dominated Magoffin County, rolling to a 78-43 win in a game played on Wednesday night.

Kylie Stephens poured in a game-high 33 points as the Lady Blackcats moved to 11-12. Celina Mullins finished with a triple-double, scoring 17 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. Alivia Slone added 10 points.

Angel Mullis paced the Lady Hornets (5-17) with 13 points and Karah Lafferty chipped in seven.
