HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: George Rogers Clark targets Chirico as next head coach

Although it appears Paintsville head football coach Joe Chirico is leaving to take the head coaching job at George Rogers Clark, there has been no official word.

The Marshall University defensive star led the Tigers to the school’s first football championship in the school’s 100-year history of the program this past December over Kentucky Country Day.

Chirico has coached at Paintsville since the 2013 season, after serving as an assistant coach there as well as under John Derossett at Prestonsburg.

In his first season the Tigers went 8-4. His overall record at Paintsville in eight seasons is 86-20, with two championship game appearances the past two years.

George Rogers Clark, a Class 6A school, was 3-5 this past season.

Mountain Top Sports will continue to follow any developing news in the days ahead.
