HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Pikeville blanks East Ridge in opener

Pikeville’s Kaylee Wells finished with 14 blocks and Emily Gearheart collected 28 digs and had four serving aces as the Lady Panthers cruised past East Ridge, 3-0, in the season opening match played at The Reservation on Tuesday night.

McKinlee Potter followed with eight kills and Hannah Akers added six in the 25-17, 25-10 and 25-13 win. Caroline Wright had four kills and Chloe Wright finished with four kills and two blocks.

Riley Tavis collected four kills, three blocks and 31 assists.

Defending 15th Region champion Floyd County was in a battle with host Wolfe County in the season opener, earning a hard-fought 2-0 win on Tuesday night.

Jadyn Hall had seven kills and six digs in the 27-25 and 25-23. Gabrielle Howard finished with six kills and six digs. Alivia Stumbo totaled seven digs. Amelia Wallace finished with 17 assists.
