It’s only a matter of time before our region gets its first measurable snowfall.  And, the Snowfighters of Highway District 12 are getting ready.  The salt domes are all full and the snow plows are serviced and waiting.  In addition to the salt on the back of the trucks is a tank that holds liquid calcium chloride which is another valuable tool used to clear snow-covered roads.  And, one by one the garage facilities in District 12 are doubling the capacity of their calcium chloride tanks from 5,000 to 10,000 gallons.  Crews are currently working at the Phelps garage in Pike County to build a concrete containment system that will hold the larger tank and contain the liquid in the event the tank ever ruptures.
