Steven Hess, 36, of Goshen, Ind., reportedly went into Subway to ask an employee for money so he could get to Lexington. The employee told him she only had $2, so he said he would go to speak to a friend at Papa John’s. A short time later, he returned and again asked for money. At that time, the employee noticed a gun on his hip and gave him her money. He then left again and returned to Papa John’s, shortly before police arrived. Officers followed him to Papa John’s and arrested him at gunpoint, due to the weapon in his possession. The gun later turned out to be a BB gun. Officers also reviewed security footage of him making sexual remarks to Papa John’s employees the night before. Once he was in custody, he told police he was in “Seal Team 5” and had killed many people in Afghanistan. Later, he admitted he had never served in the military. Hess is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on charges of robbery, misrepresenting military status, disorderly conduct and harassment.
