Indictment: Jailed women sexually abused fellow inmate at Letcher jail

Two women in Letcher County are facing felony charges for allegedly sexually abusing a fellow inmate at the Letcher County Jail.

According to court documents, 23-year-old Randee Phillips, of Jenkins, and 41-year-old Charity Sparks, of Jackhorn, were indicted recently on charges of complicity to sexual abuse in the first degree. The two are charged with acting together to sexually abuse another woman. That woman was identified by The Mountain Eagle as a fellow inmate at the Letcher County Jail.

The alleged abuse occurred in December of last year, according to indictments handed down against Phillips and Sparks.

Sparks could face up to five years in prison, while Phillips, who is also charged with being a persistent felony offender in the first degree, could face up to 20 years in prison. Both women remain lodged in the Letcher County Jail.
